Responsible for the research and development of a support programme to help local authorities access institutional or corporate finance for new, affordable housing development. •Research has informed the outline business case and secured approval to proceed to a formal market testing stage. •Engaged with policy colleagues and senior management, local councils, procurement, property, financial and legal experts to better understand the landscape, informally gauge interest and generate buy-in.•Developed the draft shape for the programme and a project plan for implementation.

Developed and co-ordinated the delivery of national leadership development programmes for senior local government politicians and chief executives and short-notice high-profile events as required. Engaged with relevant internal and external partners, commissioned experts and managed programme budgets.•2014 – Delivered the rebrand and launch of the organisation’s suite of leadership development programmes (Highlighting Leadership), working with a range of stakeholders, the communications team and external designers.•2011-13 – Managed the LGA’s Leeds Castle Leadership programme for two years providing a high-level leadership development opportunity for local authority leaders and chief executives. The programmes included international visits and events. •2011 – Led the successful delivery of the second phase of the LGA’s graduate recruitment events, assessing over 250 candidates for entry onto the scheme. This entailed a high degree of planning, organising all logistics, recruiting and managing a team of volunteers and experts to deliver a series of high-quality assessment centres which carried reputational risk with several key audiences.

Co-ordinated the design, launch, development and delivery of the inaugural year of a new cross-sector leadership development programme. Also took on responsibility for corporate communications as required and supported the board of trustees. •Worked with senior cross sector representatives and board members to recruit a high-calibre cohort of 20 senior participants. Built and maintained relationships with participants throughout the programme. •Planned and co-ordinated all logistics and managed contributors and consultants to deliver well-received residential events in the UK and US. •Arranged and delivered the launch of an alumni programme of work with private sector partners and senior sector representatives.

Managed and co-ordinated national and local political leadership programmes and projects for councillors, alongside programme communications activity; provided executive support to the Director of Politics.•Co-ordinated a £1.14m national project placing advisers with over 80 local authorities to support them in re-engaging with specific sections of society. Successfully claimed all organisational expenditure through retrospective grant funding and a system of heavily scrutinised reporting. •Set up the inaugural year of a new political leadership development programme (Next Generation); liaising with relevant partners and recruiting 60 councillors. Helped ensured the programme generated enough value to the sector to continue into subsequent years, impacting approximately 500 councillors to date.•Organised and delivered several high-profile corporate and programme based events, in collaboration with partner organisations and individuals, strategically helping position the organisation as central to political leadership development in local government.

Delivered corporate and programme communication activities, including printed publications and marketing materials, website management and events; provided executive support to the Head of Communications. •Project managed the production of a series of publications, showcasing best practice and promoting political leadership within the local government sector, including a paperback book (The Politics of Leadership, Joe Simpson, 2008). To produce to time and quality, I worked closely with contributors and the external design agency to carefully manage the design and print process.•Contributed to a public facing campaign increasing understanding of, and interest in, the role of the councillor (Be a Councillor). Organised a launch event with cross party support, including the secretary of state and shadow ministers; produced several publications on the topic; a short promotional video; organised and attended country wide events; edited website copy and secured media coverage in the trade press.
