Hello there! I can assist you in better influencing dog walker behaviour in the outdoors by:• helping you develop the most effective policies and apply good practice • walk-over site audits to identify opportunities for management improvements• training staff to select and apply the best interventions • providing copy for magazines, signage, leaflets, interviews and online content• engagement with dog owners as a trusted third-party having credibility in the canine worldAfter 10 years in the public sector, in 1998 I established my access management consultancy. Since 2002 I have specialised in using applied psychology to influence the behaviour of walkers with dogs in town, coast and country, to minimise any adverse impacts on other people, livestock and wildlife as well as promote the human and canine health benefits of dog walking.I’m uniquely well-placed to identify practical solutions because I’ve blended my 30+ years in managing public access with post-graduate study of the psychology of people and their pets at the University of Southampton. In the last decade I have undertaken lecture and study tours across three continents to learn first-hand about dog management good practice, including Canada, United States, New Zealand, Australia and Bosnia.I now work across the UK and internationally with clients in the public, private and charitable sectors; this is done by direct commission, as a subcontractor and as an Associate at Keep Britain Tidy. Please look at my projects and publications below to see how I’ve helped a wide range of clients in many different ways.I have particular skills in mitigating the impact of dog walking arising from new housing near designated sites for nature conservation, including the design of Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG), with related appearances at public inquiries and hearings into planning applications.I also have a track record as an expert on dogs in the outdoors in print and broadcast media, with appearances on programmes including: Countryfile (BBC TV), You and Yours and Farming Today (BBC Radio 4), The Jeremy Vine Show (BBC Radio 2), Crufts (Channel 4) and regional broadcast news channels. My professional work is underpinned by practical land management skills from running my 24 acre landholding under a government wildlife scheme, and powering my home and office from a 5kw wind turbine. Most of all, my work reflects my long-standing and pragmatic commitment to environmental sustainability and enhancing the welfare of wild, farmed and companion animals.
