Conservation of Australia’s biodiversity, in partnership with First Nations Australians drives my career. The purpose of the freshwater EHMP is to determine the ambient ecological condition of freshwater (non-tidal) streams draining into Moreton Bay and adjacent coastal waters. Ecological assessments are conducted twice per year in spring (pre-wet season) and autumn (post-wet season) at multiple fixed sites within each reporting area. The conceptual model developed for the freshwater EHMP includes indicators of physical and chemical parameters, ecosystem processes, aquatic macroinvertebrates, nutrient cycling and fish.I worked as one of four permanent scientist on this project undertaking both field seasons each year. My role included:* Field work planning, logistics, preparation and co-orindation* Field work and assessments of ~140 sites around SE QLD - 2 months per sampling round* Liaising with private land owners, external researchers, government agencies and other stakeholders* Aquatic macroinvertebrate ID to family level (AusRivAS certified)* Data entry, verification and validation* Statistical analysis of metadata* Report writing* Writing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)* Temporary field staff management* Equipment calibrations and maintenance Show less
