About Skyler Labuff
Currently I am working to “build the road to space” with Blue Origin. I am passionate about spaceflight and have extensive experience in operations, training, and contract management.Now with Blue Origin as a Senior Training and Mission Systems Engineer within Test and Flight Operations (TFO) supporting In-Space Systems and Blue Ring, I am responsible for building systems and approaches used to prepare flight ops teams to execute the missions ahead for Blue. I am expected to bring creative ideas, along with the persistence and passion to build a programs and teams and systems from the ground up. I am doing my part to enable Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit earth.While at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center I worked on the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Landsat Mission Operations (LMO) contract. As the Deputy Flight Operations Manager on LMO I contributed leadership to the world’s longest continuously acquired collection of space-based moderate-resolution land remote sensing data used for strategic land management. This included developing the multi-mission environment Landsat Mission Operations Center (LMOC), and management and strategic planning of real-time Mission Operations support for both Landsat 8 and Landsat 9 (launched in September 2021) spacecraft. I served on-console as Operations Director during Landsat 9 Launch, Early Orbits, and Commissioning timeframe which concluded in January of 2021.My career started at NASA Johnson Space Center where I contributed to our nation's human spaceflight program through my roles in ISS Operations, which was an amazing opportunity that I will forever cherish. As an ISS ETHOS Instructor, I trained Astronauts, Cosmonauts, Flight Controllers, and Flight Directors on the ISS Environmental Control and Life Support Systems, Internal Thermal Control Systems, and all aspects of the crew and ground response to any potential spacecraft emergency. As a supervisor on the Integrated Mission Operations Contract II (IMOC II), I was responsible for recruiting and hiring the best and brightest future leaders of human spaceflight ground operations. Technical team personnel management, contract management, customer relationships, business operations, budgetary finance and projections, contract proposal/business development, mentorship, and change leadership are all skills that I was able to build significantly during my time as a front-line manager.
