Scott started his career at International Data Group (IDG), where he served in various positions, capping his early career by launching The Web, a magazine about the then emerging Internet.Following IDG, Scott joined LinkExchange, the Internet's first advertising network. Microsoft acquired LinkExchange in 1998, where Scott worked overseeing the creation of web-delivered applications (now considered "SaaS"). Following Microsoft, Scott returned to IDG as a Partner in their venture capital group.Scott has served as an advisor to or investor in several early stage technology companies, including Zappos.com (Nasdaq: AMZN), TellMe (Nasdaq: MSFT), Xythos (Nasdaq: BBBB), iLike (Nasdaq: NWSA) and Pype (Nasdaq: ADSK). Scott continues to advise select projects in capital formation, marketing, sales, revenue generation strategy, general management and board governance. Scott's current projects include QuantDiagnostics, an AI-driven healthcare company, and KlariVis, a financial services data management company.Scott's professional activities include tech transfer and education. In 2005, Scott was the inaugural Director of the University of Maryland's VentureAccelerator, an IP spin-out program. At UMD, Scott also served as a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the Engineering School and a consultant to the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (MTECH).In 2007, as CEO, Scott helped found Zymetis, an industrial biotechnology company focused on sustainable chemicals and fuels. Zymetis was acquired by a publicly-traded energy company in 2011. Also in 2007 and 2008, Scott served as a judge for Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year program.From 2013 to 2016, Scott served a Venture Parter at Ardent Capital, an early-stage start-up foundry focused on consumer-facing mobile and e-commerce technologies in Southeast Asia. Ardent operated in Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Hong Kong and invested in additional countries such as Vietnam and Sri Lanka.Since 2002, Scott has co-owned LMO, a full-service marketing communications firm, working with clients on branding, demand creation, public relations and marketing technologies. Scott is also a founding shareholder and Board member at FVCBankcorp (NASDAQ: FVCB), a Principal at Evermay Wealth Management, and a Director at DecisionQ.
