Effective leadership must be facilitated with the ability to communicate. Dictating an idea and forming a cohesive plan is an essential step in solving any challenge.I began my journey at 17 as a retail associate for a local shipping company. I quickly fell in love with problem solving and the dynamic structure of the fast paced environment. I entered the management sector of the company within a year of initial employment and continued upward to operations manger. I held this position for 3 years until 2016, at which point I returned to school to finish my undergraduate degree in management.I gathered many useful skills and experiences to draw on, which has benefited my learning and provided me with a unique perspective on the material I’ve been exposed to in my courses. The skills I’ve drawn on most include;Communication- as my opening statement conveyed, the ability to speak to others is essential Recruiting/Hiring/Training-Working in a niche industry required a specialized individual to work well within our environment. I worked to find potential candidates through social media and other internet platforms. Additionally, my responsibilities included initial interviews, and training once hiring decisions were made.Project Management- During my 11 years of employment, the retail shipping industry experienced many changes. In the midst of these changes the global recession was in full swing. I worked with the business owner to develop new revenue streams, implement new point of sale software, lowering overhead, and motivate employees. The efforts proved successful through the survival and overall growth of the company.IT/Networking- As one of the younger individuals in the company I became the unofficial IT department. I developed knowledge of software and hardware upgrades and networking office equipment.I consider myself to be driven and self-motivated and would hope to share my knowledge and be an asset to future employers.
