My name is Tamika Smith and I’m a medical gaslighting survivor. I often left doctors' appointments feeling scared, hurt, and like it might be best not to be here anymore. I’ve never thought of a plan or attempted to harm myself, but I felt like a failure and started to blame myself for my health issues (Endometriosis and Lupus).I’m a solution-based advocate who doesn’t mind telling my story and challenging the one-size-fits-all myth. Let’s face it: no two bodies are the same, and even depression is different for everyone. For some, activities like walking may help, while others are less able to cope or get out of bed.In December 2022, my mobility returned just two months after beginning my holistic approach. I wasted no time in assisting others. Remember, whether you're managing your health with or without medication, stay in touch with your doctor or healthcare team. If you're facing gaslighting, speak out, seek support, and remember, you're your own best advocate.I've been featured on BlackDoctor.Org and contributed to the 2020 Our Voices: Poetry Anthology. I organized and hosted a Wellness Fair in an underserved community.In 2023, I received a proclamation declaring May as Lupus Awareness Month in New Orleans. I spoke at events like “Connecting the Dots to Health & Securing the Bag.” I’m also the CEO of Mone’s Healthy Eats. I'm resourceful, always finding affordable or free help for those in need. My hobbies include researching, watching documentaries, and creatively directing photo shoots.
