Mineral Processing Technician
As the Mineral Processing Technician, it is my responsibility to solve problems for students at all levels. I troubleshoot and maintain equipment, teach undergraduate students valuable lab skills, and guide graduate students towards the best analytical method for their system. Everything from rocks to ingots, I can help you answer the "how do I?" questions you might have!
Laboratory Technologist
I worked as a part a team to analyze water and waste water samples for both plant monitoring and government monitoring. Using the standards outlined in ISO 17025, I maintained a high quality of data. As part of the product quality team, I worked with the operators, engineers, and Chain of Custody holders to notify them when something is out of control, or showing a particular trend.
Graduate Student
While being responsible for my research progress, I enriched my experience in a variety of ways. Two of these ways are listed below:First, I was the laboratory safety officer for my research group. In this capacity, I performed monthly safety inspections, disposed of hazardous waste, and consulted on safety issues with my group, the department, and the university. Second, by attending conferences, I was given an excellent opportunity to network with many people in my field. I also honed my communication skills by giving presentations and posters. At CSC in May 2013 (Quebec City) I won an award for my poster. My research project involved organic and inorganic synthesis of fluorescent dyes and sensors.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
As a teaching assistant, I was responsible for leading undergraduates during their laboratory sessions. This position involved being able to effectively communicate complex ideas and techniques, troubleshoot a variety of issues, and maintain the safety of each student. I was awarded the David Thomas Award for teaching organic and main group chemistry in September 2014.
Research Assistant
While an undergraduate, I was given an fantastic opportunity to participate in research. This position allowed me to learn and grow as a chemist. In this capacity, I assisted many different graduate students with their projects, developed my own project, gathered and analyzed my own data, and learned many analytical techniques. This project was related to the field of nanotechnology.
Laboratory Assistant
As a laboratory assistant, my responsibilities were to accept aqueous samples from clients, subsample them for the required analyses and carry out a variety of these analyses. I was able to gain experience measuring AAS, turbidity, colour, and many other relevant assays. I went above and beyond my duties by also monitoring the inventory, assisting in instrumentation maintenance, and developing the SOP for the colour measurement.
Laboratory Assistant
At Alex Stewart, I worked as a laboratory technologist to receive pre-weighed soil samples and digest them to determine various metal contents. In this position, I was trained to use ICP and ICP-MS.
