About Shannon Mullin, Mph
After being raised in a small town in Upstate New York, my participation in Semester at Sea, which brought me to ten countries throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe, forced me to confront my privilege and inspired me to become involved in the fight for social justice and human rights. I channeled the passion I discovered on this voyage into action by completing two AmeriCorps terms with Boys Hope Girls Hope of Greater New Orleans, a group home for academically-motivated middle and high school scholars who come from challenging backgrounds. While serving as an Academic Success Coordinator, I was able to mentor ten girls and I worked to instill in them the value of education and the importance of giving back to the community which has given so much to us. I completed my Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Social Behavior & Community Health, as well as my Certificate in Maternal & Child Health, in May 2022. I now serve as a Research & Policy Analyst for The Children's Agenda, working on issues related to early childhood development, P-12 education, and child poverty. I am an experienced researcher and analyst who is driven to make the world a more equitable place. I work well independently as I am a self-starter and know how to manage my time. I also have the capacity to work well with others, as I have strong communication skills and am able to take the lead in a group setting or follow directions from others. I am incredibly organized and detail-oriented, but I am also able to step back and see the entirety of a project that I am working on. Supervisors have said I am hard-working, passionate, adventurous, and a strong leader. Some of my many passions include: criminal justice reform, climate change, expanding access to quality education for girls around the world, making lists, and watching documentaries on Netflix about feminism, sharks, and protecting the environment.
Listed skills include Project Management, Research, Leadership, Social Media, and 4 others.
