Lead Auditor
CurrentI work in the Internal Audit section of the Department of Corrections, Division of Human Services. My duties include the following:• Conduct full onsite institutional audits at 21 of the department’s facilities located throughout the state. Full onsite institutional audits include the business office, offender organizations, puppies for parole, canteen, food service, maintenance, operations (office supplies, housekeeping supplies, forms, clothing issue, armory, vehicles, fuel, and fixed assets), and the personnel club.These audits have financial and compliance components, which emphasize cash transactions, purchasing, reviewing financial records, determining adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, determining compliance with state statutes, departmental and institutional policies and procedures, expenditure testing, and performing inventory counts. • Create a new audit schedule and audit budget at the end of the fiscal year to ensure resources are available for the upcoming fiscal year. Schedule full onsite institutional audits on a three-year rotating basis. Schedule Change of Command audits and special audits as requested. Update the audit schedule and audit budget whenever changes are made to ensure resources are available throughout the year.• Prepare audit reports to include observations, findings, and recommendations.• Conduct the monthly reconciliation of Missouri Vocational Enterprises' (MVE) working capital revolving fund and determine the timeliness of deposits and the accuracy of the cash receipt logs. This includes reconciling complex Excel spreadsheets and maintaining attention to detail.• Conduct Centurion's billing verification (bi-monthly) and determine the adequacy of offender population counts.• Review and maintain working knowledge of contracts, state statutes, departmental and institutional services policies and procedures.*This position was reclassified from Associate Auditor to Lead Auditor effective November 1, 2023.
