Our team is building Ambry, an immutable blob store, to replace our current media serving solution that hosts profile pictures and documents such as PDF resumes. Shadi had a great internship! For her internship project, Shadi designed and implemented a simulator so that we could understand how storage capacity and the workload would change as an Ambry cluster ages (i.e., increases in amount of data stored as well as number of nodes & disks). Shadi used the simulator to analyze a number of different policies for when new partitions are allocated from existing raw capacity and when new nodes & disks are added to a cluster. Shadi identified three key metrics that allowed us to compare different policies. The simulator Shadi built had a clean design and implementation. Shadi scripted all of her analyzes and clearly documented her results. Shadi demonstrated many strengths over her internship. She can both build systems & tools as well as evaluate & analyze trade offs. She can learn new areas quickly. She focuses on delivering results and so completed a substantial piece of work in a 12-week internship. She also communicates effectively. Finally, one thing that really stood out to me was that Shadi sought out feedback and responded to the feedback to improve her project, and her skills. Shadi is clearly going to continue to grow into a top notch systems & infrastructure engineer. I hope I get the pleasure of working with Shadi again!"
