Profile bio

About Soffia Osk Magnusdottir Dayal, Ph.D.

With a career spanning academic research & innovation, public health & environment policy, and bilateral cooperation on health, I have 25 years of experience across three continents: Europe, America, and Asia. Having lived in India since 2004 and worked at the grassroots on improving socio-economic indicators, I have witnessed first hand the developmental divide and its impact on people’s lives. I have understood how empowering low-resource communities through provision of clean drinking water, ante-natal care for pregnant women, and cooking gas can help ameliorate conditions. Thus, I have contributed to driving their development, enabling economic growth, and changing lives. Protecting the most vulnerable sections of a society, namely women and children, is an area I am particularly passionate about. In my work with PATH, WHO India Country Office and WHO South-East Asia Office in New Delhi, I have earned deep insight into the effects of climate change on natural resource quality and availability, as well as of the importance of chemical safety in safeguarding both the environment and human health. My strengths lie in the areas of research, reporting, and management of grants of technically complex projects in academia, large public development programs, and bilateral projects, such as the multi-million-dollar Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) aimed to reduce child mortality in India. Throughout my career I have conceptualized new projects, planned budgets, recruited partners, and managed stakeholder relationships.

Listed skills include Analytical Chemistry, Medical Diagnostics, Program Management, Policy Analysis, and 32 others.
