Understanding and Preventing the Reproduction of Gender and Racial Inequalities in the Big Data Era ProjectReviewed and synthesized existing literature on algorithmic fairness and statistical discrimination. Project is a collaboration between sociologists and computer scientists to examine racial and gender inequalities in predictive algorithms and provide recommendations to prevent the reproduction of social hierarchies.

Collaborated with a team of undergraduates and faculty members studying the Triggers of State Led Mass-Killings (ToMK). ToMK project utilizes Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning tools to systematically analyze the dynamic processes that precede and escalate mass killings. • Conducted an independent project exploring the benefits and drawbacks between text classification using Machine Learning and content analysis by human coding. Analyzed accuracy scores of ML models and intercoder reliability measures.• Presented my research and ToMK project to other students, professors, and high school students.• Expanded knowledge of Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning tools for social science research applications.

Border Research Project• Assisted Professors Jenna Nobles and Peter Catron by independently coding over 1,000 immigration manifests from National Archives data to develop a database of immigration records for demographic research. • Communicated ways to improve coding scheme and tested pilot versions of revised data entry processes.
