Dr. Yeonsu Song’s Sleep Lab

As a Student Advisor for the CARES Youth Collective, I provide input on content and programs that aim to support the development of resilient, emotionally healthy children. Collaborating with a team of college and graduate students, I participate in virtual meetings where we complete projects related to childhood anxiety and mental health.

Provided non-medical support to patients and their families through home visits, offering companionship and respite care to help alleviate the emotional and physical burdens during end-of-life care.

UCLA Program for Excellence in Education and Research in the Sciences (PEERS) is a two-year initiative aimed at fostering academic excellence in STEM disciplines. Engaged in rigorous coursework, mentorship, and collaborative learning, building a solid foundation in the life sciences. Contributed to research projects and attended workshops focused on scientific methods, critical thinking, and professional development, gaining key skills for a future career in science and research.

Gained hands-on experience with essential lab techniques, including agarose and acrylamide gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, cloning (restriction digests, ligation, transformation), bioinformatics, and sterile techniques. Conducted PCR and DNA sequencing to investigate antibiotic-resistant mutants in E. coli genomic DNA. Additionally, developed skills in reading and analyzing scientific papers.

I was a friendly point of contact for students with questions/interest in joining club. Delegated shifts/roles for service events with 50+ volunteers. Events I organized include: - Back to School event where we donated backpacks to 300+ elementary school students in Hawthorne- Care packages for the homeless - 80 handmade Valentine’s Day cards for senior citizens

Tracked tasks of 80+ teammates and organized completion schedules for five robots, created newsletters for corporate sponsors, helped plan events including annual summer camp and workshops targeted toward new teams.

Volunteered 3 weeks (Mon-Fri) for 5 hours. Prepared name tags for 50+ campers at the start of the week and assigned colored wristbands indicating swimming ability for beach days. Supervised and ensured campers were safe at all times. Assisted kids during squid dissections by handling all cutting. Engaged kids during freetime with games and songs
