I am a fourth-year student majoring in Child Development at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. Working with children and being a part of furthering their cognitive, social, and emotional abilities has always been a strong passion of mine. Prior to attending Cal Poly, I worked for four years as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor, which allowed me to educate and inform children of the basic swimming skills necessary for water safety. While at Cal Poly I have worked as a Student Intern within the San Luis Obispo Unified School District. During my third year, I volunteered under Cal Poly's College Corps program where I led the after-school sports program at Hawthorne Elementary School. Providing a space where children could not only be involved in their school-affiliate programs but also build connections with their team on and off the field made the experience extremely rewarding. Under the College Corps program, I was nominated to be the College Corps Fellow Ambassador. As part of this role, I attended College Corps representative meetings, shared my story at the End of the Year Celebration, as well as being one of the four panelists in an info session in regard to Cracking the Code on Education. Moving into my senior year at Cal Poly, I am continuing similar roles within the San Luis Obispo Unified School District but I am also adding in hours of shadowing the School Counselor. In addition, I have also been nominated this year to serve on the College of Liberal Arts Student Advisory Council, where I can play a vital role in voicing student concerns and perspectives. Throughout my years of experience and skills, I understand the importance of building relationships and the impact that various contents can have on an individual's life. I want to be that trusting individual, building a positive environment while providing education and resources in order to best equip children and their families at hand.
