Since I was a little girl, I’ve wanted to pursue a career where I could improve the wellbeing of others. I view my background in Psychology and Women and Gender Studies as the foundational steps for doing so. I've garnered the tools to help others navigate the complexities of their feelings and actions while expanding my ability to support diverse populations in their unique experiences as well. My greatest values that are present in my work and research are inclusivity, open mindedness, and integrity. By remaining inclusive, I aim to create a space that encourages and values diverse voices. Open mindedness allows me to be receptive to a number of differing ideas. Having integrity ensures that I am always reliable, truthful, and ethical. These values were incredibly relevant while studying abroad in Japan where I witnessed the power of nonverbal communication. Because I am not fluent in Japanese, I had to rely on forms of body language when communicating with locals. This experience led me to connect the power of nonverbal communication back to my own relationships, as I realized the impact that subtle cues and expressions play in everyday interactions. This also made me appreciate cultural diversity and the richness it brings to communication. Understanding and appreciating different communication styles has and will continue to aid me in my endeavors, especially through my journey as a master's student specializing in Couples and Family Therapy.
