My PhD research aim was to compare healthy and diseased epithelial cells to find potential cell-based therapeutic strategies for chronic lung diseases such as COPD and IPF. I developed, optimized and implemented a work flow for analyzing human lung primary epithelial cells from tissue handling to single cell analyses. Here, I used methods and techniques such as: enzymatic tissue dissociation, FACS, MACS, primary cell culture, ALI and 3D organoid culture, single-cell RNA sequencing and IF/IHC. Working at a department based in the hematopoietic stem cell field, through collaboration I also learned methods such as CRISPR/Cas9, qPCR and Northern Blot.During my studies, I got the opportunity to hone my scientific communications skills, both through poster presentations at conferences and writing scientific papers as well as applications for grants and ethical permits. In addition, I supervised undergraduate students working on course projects; helping them plan, gather and analyze research data.
