As a second-year student in college, the question of life’s definitive purpose looms large, and I certainly don’t claim to have all the answers. Yet, amongst the evolving ambitions, one conviction has remained steadfast: my desire to contribute to the enrichment of people’s lives. Growing up in one of the busiest and most convenient cities, Seoul, South Korea, I was largely unaware of the privileges I enjoyed. However, volunteering at a local food pantry and taking a Sustainable Food Systems course in a rural city in CT during highschool revealed the stark realities of systemic injustice within our food system. These eye-opening experiences inspired me to start initiatives and projects, dedicated to addressing local food insecurity.These formative experiences deeply shaped my conviction to confront social injustices. I believe that, regardless of our backgrounds, we share a collective responsibility to uplift those less fortunate. Life, at its core, is about a reciprocal relationship with others—just as I have benefited from the support of others, it is my duty to reciprocate that goodwill as a member of humanity.Coming into college, my focus shifted to sustainable and accessible energy and technology. This led me to choose electrical engineering as my undergraduate field of study. I see this discipline as a powerful means to develop innovative solutions that can improve daily lives of millions of people, ultimately contributing to a more just and equitable world.
