About Somesh S. Menon

When I last updated this profile, Corona was that beer you had with lemons, working from home was considered a luxury, and the Lakshadweep Islands still existed.Alright yes, the Lakshadweep Islands still exist and I have been busy trying to ensure it stays that way. But the point is, a LOT has changed since late 2018. Then, I planned on continuing as a content creator in one of India’s big cities, at some established media company where I could readily dole out incisive analysis and witty commentary on the clickbaity issues of the day. Now, I find myself in lovely little Lakshadweep, working with the Nature Conservation Foundation to convey the rapidly looming threats of climate change to the local administration and island communities. From being an Editor at a cushy desk job in India’s capital city, I now flit from boat to boat and beach to beach to help preserve these gorgeous coral islands unfamiliar to most of the country.It is a slight change from what I had planned. Not for the first time.Since starting out in 2014, I have worked at:✓ the Government of Gujarat’s Higher Education Department in Ahmedabad;✓ a UN Habitat-supported project on Gender Based Violence across Delhi NCR, Jaipur, and Bhopal;✓ the afore-mentioned cushy desk job as an Editor with one of India’s largest education companies in New Delhi;Why so much change?Because, as Stoicism supremo Marcus Aurelius once asked, “What can take place without change?”But seriously, as 2020 has proven, life is short, messy, and unpredictable.And I am determined to live mine learning everything I can, seeing as many places as I can, meeting as many diverse people as I can, producing the best work that I can, and most importantly, changing myself, my LinkedIn profile and the world for the better, as much as I can.
