I produce and host “Loitering: The Occasional, but Lovable, Traveling Minipod,” an experiment in email newsletter podcasting. Loitering is named after the South Asian "Why Loiter" movement advocating women's right to safe space.

I lead the development of a media/marketing strategy plan for the Uncuffed podcast.

I teach audio storytelling to individuals incarcerated at Solano State Prison, and occasionally San Quentin, through KALW's prison training program, Uncuffed. I help design and deliver lesson plans, coach students through every aspect of audio storytelling and podcast production, field pitches, offer individual editorial feedback, guide group edits, collaborate with colleagues outside of prison on editing, production and administrative duties, and help produce the podcast Uncuffed. I managed and coordinated KALW's 2022 election coverage. My work included producing and editing audio election briefs; writing and producing print election guides for neighborhoods with historically low voter turnout and managing their on-the-ground distribution; outreaching community and local media partners; producing in-depth interviews; training emerging journalists; collaborating on social media strategy with the digital content manager; and producing and hosting election night coverage.

Highlights:2022: Reported for Wired, VOX, BBC World Service & 70 Million.2021: I reported on labor and the restaurant industry for the San Francisco Public Press and hosted a 3-part series for its podcast "Civic." I also reported for Wired and the BBC and studied sound design. 2020: I reported/produced stories on politics, housing, and the future of policing for Politico Magazine, Marketplace and 70 Million. I was awarded reporting grants from EHRP/SAJA, AAJA-SF & Religion News Foundation. I also field-produced episodes on the rise of anti-Asian hate for the podcast Self Evident and researched a podcast for Vox Media. And I was part of the SF Writers Grotto's Rooted & Written conference by and for writers of color.2019: I was commissioned to report on Hindu politics for The Atlantic, Religion News Service and The Juggernaut. I also researched/pre-interviewed sources for a Radiolab project on California's wildfires.2018: I reported on immigration for PRI and The Atlantic and bail reform for the documentary podcast 70 Million. I also wrote about the feminism of the longest-running all-Asian beauty pageant in the US for Wired and produced an award-winning story on "Beyoncé and the Bible" for Studio 360. And I lead research on National Geographic's project on South Asian America. 2017: I was named a "Rising Star" and Senior Fellow with the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism and spent the summer reporting in India. I also reported stories for NPR, Wired & PRI, including an audio documentary on textbook revisionist history within the US South Asian diaspora.2016: I received fellowships from IWMF & SAJA to report on gender, politics and press freedom in Uganda, as well as Hindu nationalism in the US.2013-2015: I reported on gender, politics, religion, caste and Hindu nationalism while based in Uttar Pradesh, India's largest and most pivotal swing state. Clients included The New York Times, Guardian, Foreign Policy, VICE News, PRI & The Caravan.

I consult on every stage of the podcast production process for companies, nonprofits and other clients, and do hands on work to make exceptional projects. Additionally, I research, report and write numerous bylined and un-bylined blog posts, white papers and other articles. Topics include the modern workplace, organizational psychology, women and entrepreneurship, AI, misinformation and disinformation, the growth of different startups, the publishing industry, and new models to help make local journalism more useful, collaborative and sustainable. I edited the anthology podcast "Wrongful Conviction," hosted by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Maggie Freleng. Each episode covers the stories of mostly women and members of marginalized communities who have been exonerated or maintain their innocence in crimes for which they've been convicted. My work involved assessing the big-picture story and line editing multiple scripts a week; listening and making suggested edits to rough and sound-designed mixes; referencing research documents and court papers for fact-checking; and collaborating with a remote team on Slack and Google Suite.

I was part of the second class of PERIPLUS fellows, a competitive writing collective that connects promising BIPOC writers with mentors who can coach them on craft, business, and other topics related to their work.

I produced and edited raw tape in ProTools into compelling, non-narrated stories and collaborated with story editors and client producers to shape these narratives. The work often involved working under deadline pressure and researching talent.

I researched, sourced and edited audio for the podcast “Viewers Like Us.” I also produced rough mixes and collaborated closely with the Managing Editor to meet the show’s aesthetic and tone.

I researched, identified and pre-interviewed sensitive sources for a would-be narrative podcast linked to the 20-year anniversary of 9/11. I also crafted host interview questions.

I produced and edited a podcast on female founders and entrepreneurs for Canaan, an early-stage venture capital firm. The work included researching guests, drafting host intros, editing interviews for length and content, scoring music, mixing tape and transcribing.

I was named an inaugural “Rising Star” and a Senior Fellow with the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University, as part of its nationally competitive journalism initiative with the Fund for Investigative Journalism to increase diverse and inclusive voices and topics in investigative journalism. (The Schuster Institute lost funding and shut down at the end of 2018).

I wrote about trends in media and advertising, including the relationship between publishers and big tech companies, online privacy and ad fraud, and podcasting’s financial viability. I also covered related conferences and tracked emerging media and press freedom around the world. My work was cited by Nieman Lab, Mediagazer, Pew Research Center and the American Press Institute, and regularly appeared on the trade publication Digital Content Next, which represents large publishers like the New York Times, Vox Media and NPR. I researched story, character and scene leads for National Geographic's nationwide photo spread on South Asian America, and I collaborated with my colleagues to plan and execute a vision for the project. As part of the work, I coordinated logistics for a reporting trip spanning the state of California and assisted the photographer on location. I also reported, scripted and voiced a video on South Asian media representation.

I received a scholarship to study Urdu in an intensive language program in Lucknow, India. I continued classes through the fall semester, focusing on conversation and understanding local media and the communities that consume them.

I studied as an Anne O’Hare McCormick Scholar and graduated with honors. My coursework focused on data and investigative journalism, human rights and foreign affairs reporting, digital news strategies, and radio reporting and production. My master's thesis examined how Guyana’s social and political history influenced interracial relationships within New York's Guyanese diaspora. And I served as the project lead for "New Global Journalism," an analysis of the changing landscape of foreign correspondence, which inspired a Tow Center report on the topic.

I monitored news from international broadcasters on YouTube and curated video stories for Link TV’s pioneering semantic news website and app, which aimed at using video to reinvent world news and social action for the digital age. I wrote headlines and descriptions, edited photos and monitored analytics.

I built and managed the online presence of the program LinkAsia, responded to breaking news, and worked to engage and attract audiences and key followers (journalists, policy makers, politicians, experts). I was promoted to news editor and curator after six months.

I pitched and wrote stories focusing on the intersection of technology and digital culture with human rights and foreign affairs, for one of the world's first news sites initially devoted to tech and social media reporting.

I created and produced all aspects of a place-based podcast series about local and international students in Shizuoka, Japan, grappling with identity and searching for community. I was awarded the 2010 Suruga International Institute research grant to execute the project. I recruited and managed a team of editors, consultants and translators, as well as taught myself ProTools.

The JET Program is one of the world's oldest and largest international exchange organizations. I taught kindergarten, elementary and junior high school students with Japanese teachers of English at five junior high schools and non-English speaking teachers at numerous primary schools. I also contributed to The Shizuoka Chronicle, an English-language newspaper in Shizuoka City, Japan.

I gained wide education in public radio reporting at one of the most-listened-to public radio stations in the nation: I researched stories, conducted pre-interviews and gathered sound in the field for KQED’s afternoon news broadcast. I also edited audio, wrote copy, searched newswires, pitched story ideas, and participated in news meetings and training workshops.

I educated and counseled students preparing for standardized tests in the PSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, NCLEX and USMLE. I edited student essays and performed various administrative duties.

I researched and reported a variety of stories affecting the Indian diaspora in the U.S., with a focus on the San Francisco Bay Area.

I prepared lesson plans and taught weekly English conversation classes to 10-15 international students.

I produced and reported radio news stories for weekly broadcasts, including two original recurring themed episodes: one on international culture shock and understanding, and another on current events.

I assisted in interviewing women in urban and rural informal settlements participating in a micro-finance project.
