In my five years at KWL I was heavily involved in the feasibility study and due diligence aspects of DES as well as related detailed design and construction. My recent district energy experience includes Project Manager for several DES planning studies in downtown Vancouver; Project Engineer for the preliminary and detailed design of central energy plants; the design and construction of the Phase 3 expansion of the Alexandra District Energy Utility for the City of Richmond; the detailed due diligence study for the University of British Columbia Neighborhood District Energy System; and for the design of the Surrey City Centre DES Phase 1.

During my time at Green Erg Technologies I completed an in-depth feasibility study for the Tsay Keh Dene Nation, examining the potential to generate electricity from debris wood collected on the Williston reservoir, adjacent to their off-grid community.

Mattson Technology is a manufacturer of capital equipment for the semi-conductor industry. Mattson Canada is the developer of a technology referred to as flash rapid thermal processing (fRTP). My work at Mattson was divided into two aspects. The first was the design of new components and systems for high volume manufacture, and the second was supporting the existing tools which are in service at Mattson and in customer fabrication facilities.

WhisperTech is the designer and manufacturer of a micro-combined heat and power system called WhisperGen™, which is based on a Stirling cycle engine. The WhisperGen produces 1kW of electricity and 9 kW of heat in the form of hot water. It is designed to replace household boilers in the UK. My work at WhisperTech focused on design to meet specific requirements for system performance, cost, safety and reliability. I developed an understanding of the factors that affect burner performance and emissions, such as fuel/air mixing, mixture temperature and burner geometry. I became familiar with the regulations and requirements that govern gas burning appliances in the UK and I learned about the risks associated with gas burning appliances and how they are mitigated. I became familiar with the various suppliers of gas equipment and I worked on the design of burner components. I worked as part of a team to re-design the combustion system for high volume manufacturing. I was involved with the testing of new components and prototype systems.

During my time at Lyttelton Engineering I was involved in many projects to varying degrees and my range of experience was quite broad. I did design work, including calculations, component selection and engineering drawing. I worked on quotations for customers, this involved estimating the cost of equipment and labour and developing timelines for project completion. I corresponded with equipment suppliers, customers, and testing and inspection agencies such as SGS. I wrote work instructions for many jobs. I was responsible for compiling the quality assurance documentation for current Lyttelton Engineering projects and I was appointed to the position of Quality Manager. I was involved in day to day activities in the fabrication shop and I also participated in site visits to boiler houses and plants in the south island of New Zealand
