(A scientist with keyboard and pipette. An entrepreneur of life using hands and mind.) I am passionate to understand how biological systems work and how biotech can make a better world. My current research goal is to leverage the power of stem cell engineering and microfluidic technology to create a physiologically relevant gut organoid model, which can help us understand the complexity of gut microbiome and its interaction with the host. My Ph.D. research focused on the interplay between protein synthesis and metabolism. I have discovered how E.coli cells regulate protein synthesis based on the metabolic constraints under elemental nutrient limitations. Methodologically, I have developed a new way to probe mitochondrial ribosome translation at single nucleotide precision. I have multidisciplinary team working and mentoring experience, and technical expertise that covers a wide range of methods related to protein synthesis including i) measurement of RNA expression using RNA-Seq ii) probing translational activity using ribosome profiling iii) quantifying protein and metabolite abundance using LC/MS-based method for proteomics and metabolomics, and iv) related quantitative and analytical skills including experimental design, statistics, and data handling.
