Founded in late 2022, Third Place Bar is a dynamic series of alcohol-free pop-up events in New York City. Third Place Bar creates a welcoming space for people to socialize and connect without the pressure to drink—whether they’re abstaining for the night, taking a break, or embracing a longer alcohol-free journey.

Freelance work mostly around teaching, workshops, developer relations in the data engineering space.

In addition to managing external partnerships, I was also responsible for leading the core engineering teams through planning and implementation of our product engineering roadmap.

As the Partnerships lead, I worked with a team of engineers with the goal of supporting external parties in implementing Great Expectations, an open-source data validation tool, as well as collaborate with other tools and platforms in the data engineering ecosystem to build integrations. My role also included developer relations responsibilities, such as developing learning materials, running webinars, writing blog posts, and delivering conference talks. In addition, I managed "integration partnerships" with other tools in the data engineering ecosystem (such as Dagster, Prefect, Pandas Profiling, Airflow/Astronomer), contributed code, and produced training materials such as prototypes, demos, and how-to guides.

After leaving my previous role at Flatiron, I took some time off to travel (I spent a month in Colombia and Peru to study Spanish), as well as focus on developing and delivering workshops and conference talks. - Engaged with internal and external customers and worked in a cross-functional team to identify opportunities for developing and improving data products using real-world oncology data.- Utilized a large toolkit including SQL, Python/Pandas, Jupyter, R, and data visualization to build and maintain data pipelines and analytical applications.- Built up an internal data exploration and visualization platform based on airbnb's Superset that is now being utilized by several hundred users across the organization.- Co-ordinated the Data Insights Engineering intern program and mentored an intern (who returned as a full-time hire), managed an engineer, created and led several onboarding classes, and started up several new teams over the course of my time at Flatiron.

As a Medical Informaticist at Flatiron Health, I focused on the analysis and harmonization of structured healthcare data using industry standards such as HL7 terminologies, ICD, CPT, LOINC, RxNorm and FirstDatabank, as well as modeling of internal terminologies and data models.

Short-term project to develop a prototype for a web-based ontology debugging tool based on the strategies for dealing with multiple justifications in OWL ontologies which I developed in my PhD thesis.

Research focus on the Semantic Web, knowledge representation and reasoning, in particular explanation for OWL ontologies. Strong interest in both the logic side of knowledge representation, as well as the cognitive aspects of how users interact with logic-based KR formalisms. As a side project, I also performed several experiments in OWL reasoner benchmarks, and recently RDF triple store and OBDA (ontology based data access) system benchmarks.

I managed the "Digital Skills for Women in Manchester" project, an EU-funded project (ESF grant number 3046) that aims at equipping over 100 unemployed women from the Greater Manchester area with IT skills to improve their prospects of finding employment. Tasks included project proposal and planning, course scheduling, connecting with potential learners and promoting the course, managing finances, and generating project reports. The project was a joint effort between The Manchester Digital Laboratory, the Manchester Libraries, and Manchester Girl Geeks.

Internship to design and implement a prototype for a DAISY (XML based format) audio book playback software on Symbian OS smartphones, using C++. I carried on research into this topic as a dissertation project. My prototype was implemented and integrated as Daisy2Go into Nuance's "Talks&Zooms" accessibility software (http://www.nuance.com/for-individuals/by-solution/talks-zooms/key-benefits/index.htm)
