TWO MINUTE BIOSpencer Haven is driven by working with and serving people through business and education. An aspiring entrepreneur, Spencer is creative, hard-working, and always seeking to learn new things. After graduating from Calvin College in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology, Spencer moved to Guatemala with Peace Corps in order to gain a better understanding of poverty in international contexts. Seeing an integral link between business, education, and poverty, Spencer began his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Social Impact at Eastern University (located in St. Davids, PA). During this time, he also spent additional time in Guatemala, Kenya, and Tanzania. Spencer then moved back to Grand Rapids, MI and married his now wife, Christina Haven. Continuing to cultivate his skill sets, Spencer began working at the Acton Institute, helping manage their database and creating campaign projects. While working at Acton, Spencer developed a more robust philosophical understanding of economics, poverty, business, and faith. He also participated in the Koch Associates Program, through Stand Together Foundation, that taught Market-Based Management (MBM) and entrepreneurship. Spencer is constantly looking for new opportunities to learn and is especially drawn to businesses that are purpose-driven and focused on innovation. Spencer has a wide range of hobbies, including running, rock climbing, reading philosophy & theology, lock-picking, acoustic guitar, chess, mountain-biking, road-biking, snowboarding, woodworking, boxing, and anything else that strikes his fancy.
