As a Systems Administrator I get the chance to work on more complex issues as well as building solutions for our clients at Network Center. My days vary widely, some days I am getting workstations ready for a hardware refresh, others I am onsite responding to a high priority issue or outage. I work with multiple environments and products everyday and that keeps things interesting. I also spend some time researching new technologies as they are released and introduced.

I worked on the support team to provide both help desk and tier 2 support for many different clients. I had to quickly learn the environment I was working in to provide the best support and solutions I could offer. I had the opportunity to work with all sorts of technologies and infrastructures. I was the initial contact for support for Windows Server, vSphere environments, switches and firewalls, Meraki networking devices, Office 365 deployments as well as on-prem Exchange. I also had the opportunity to mentor my coworkers and help them with their troubleshooting.

Rochester, Minnesota Area

I supported the technology needs of teachers and students at 2 middle schools and 2 elementary schools. I provided hands on support for windows 10 workstations, iPads, Office 2016, SMART boards, Epson projectors, and HP and Konica Minolta printers. No two days were the same but many of my assignments included imaging computers, using Active Directory to manage assets and troubleshoot permission issues, using Casper to mange iPads, and using the Meraki dashboard to track assets and monitor/troubleshoot network issues.

As a Help Desk Specialist I provided first level support for windows 7 workstations, Cerner, Epic, MICS, Microsoft Office, and about 1,500 other pieces of software. A lot of the calls I took during off-shift were about our F5 VPN client and RSA secureID. I worked for the Rochester Mayo Clinic but as an off-shift employee I supported the Arizona, Florida and MCHS campuses. I quickly became a source of knowledge for other Help Desk Specialists and even gave technical presentations at our meetings. I was allowed to work full-time remotely within 5 months of being hired.

Customer Care Specialist January 2015- April 2015As a Customer Care Specialist I was one of two employees who ran the Rochester Public Schools Help Desk. My daily tasks included answering phone calls and web tickets, and managing user accounts. During slow times I would help with small system maintenance projects for our Tier 3 team or study and work with technologies like Active Directory and Windows Server. Technology Analyst April 2015 - January 2016As a Technology Analyst for Rochester Public Schools I performed workstation and network support. This role had a hands on approach to support. I would help with issue that the Help Desk was not able to resolve and perform system maintenance tasks like imaging computers. I supported student and staff iPads, laptops, and workstations. I helped support 16 elementary buildings with 4 other team members. I also continued to use Active Directory to manage assets and troubleshoot user permission issues.

I worked as a contractor for Charter Communications. Each day I would install Cable TV, VoIP phone services, and Broadband internet for Residential and commercial customers in Austin, Albert Lea, and Owatonna. I started only installing residential services but within 6 months I began also installing Charter Business services. During my 18 months at TAK I serviced over 1,500 customers, and in March of 2014 I had the highest number of service calls for all techs in Minnesota. I educated customers on how to use Charter services, and went above the expectation to assist them with technology issues.

I started working at GNBC as a part time employee while attending NDSU, before graduating I knew that wanted to become a full time employee. The great thing about GNBC was that you had to be able to fill all the roles needed to keep the business moving. This meant fixing bikes, selling bikes, fixing up the 100 year building the shop is in, helping out in community events, or leading group rides. When I was a full time employee my main role was receiving and labeling all of the bikes and parts we sold. I also trained in new employees and led our Wednesday night ride which had 10- 40 riders. There was no commission for sales or service so we all worked together as a team to provide the best customer service we could. This job taught me how to actively listen and to never judge a book by its cover. I got so much joy out of finding the right bike for the customer and spreading the happiness that cycling has brought to my life.

I assisted with restructuring the ArcCatalog database to help bring a consistency to how files were stored and what metadata was added to each file. The goal was to keep the description and keywords basic but effective for finding the files needed for the project. I also created a couple maps for the Bicycle/Pedestrian coordinator to use for presentations and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. I also provided some ArcGIS application support.

October 2008- December 2008 Dry Valleys, AntarcticaI worked as a Field Research Assistant for Dr. Allan Ashworth & Dr. Adam R Lewis. I assisted with sample collection and and camp maintenance. May 2009 - August 2009 Fargo, North DakotaI worked with the sediment samples we collected from Antarctica to help determine the sediment type of the areas we were studying. I ran the collected soil samples through the RO-TAP Sieve Shaker and organized and recorded all the findings. Once all the lab work was complete I created a poster to display at a NDSU research fair.
