About Danni Mitchell
After finishing veterinary school, I hope to pursue an academic internship and residency in small animal surgery. My career goal is to work in academia, where I can conduct clinical trials that integrate regenerative medicine techniques with orthopedic surgery. Prior to attending PennVet, I worked for four years in a research laboratory at Johns Hopkins University where I studied the mechanisms of axon guidance and synaptogenesis. I decided to study veterinary medicine so that I could approach research in a more clinically minded manner in the future, by translating basic science findings into therapeutic outcomes.My current interest is in canine osteoarthritis, and particularly how regenerative medicine therapies or tissue engineering can be used to slow the progression of this degenerative disorder. Therefore, I hope to make breakthroughs that relate to our understanding of the pathogenesis and treatment of orthopedic diseases.
