I started my role with Titan targeting small-scale development such as new reporting requirements and small feature improvement/addition on the SQL Server side. I quickly grabbed hold of the opportunity to work full-time with SQL Server and began rapidly expanding my skills to cover maintenance of servers, query tuning, indexing, backup and recovery and large-scale development items.My two primary focuses during my time with Titan DMS were on database administration and process automation. I took a large number of processes which were at the time I joined highly manual and time-consuming procedures and brought them to the point of being fully automated or where full automation was not possible 90+% automation greatly reducing the workload on the database team. On the administration side I was responsible for determining specifications and configuration of new servers as well as the upgrade and migration process when moving from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 and again in late 2012 when hardware was again refreshed and the company migrated to SQL Server 2012. I continuously monitored servers through development of custom scripts for automating maintenance tasks including backups, consistency checking and various monitoring duties. I also targeted query performance and developed a number of processes to identify underperforming queries and determine the general health of servers.As a senior figure in the development team I was tasked with overseeing the recruitment of potential new employees including analysing resumes and interviewing potential candidates as well as training new staff on all facets of the business. After a few months of this I took it on as a more formal part-time role and eventually in 2001 after the business had been taken over by the publicly listed Infomedia Ltd moved to a full-time role. In 2003 I took on leadership of the helpdesk team which consisted of at the time 4 members including myself. At that time I was then leader of a team of up to 10 staff members. After 18 months in Brisbane I relocated back to Perth to continue support from the Perth area.While based in Brisbane I also took over the role of Database Administrator for some small add-on products that were produced to compliment the primary product.
