Dr. Abraham Joy's group. my work primarily focused within organic photochemistry, non-Newtonian rheology of melts and thermosets, UV curable 3D Printing, peptide presentation and controlled therapeutic release, and physical modeling of unique phenomena in 3D Printing.I adapted our functional polyester platform for use in extrusion based 3D printing to create a 3DP biomaterial platform that can UV crosslink without use of initiators or small molecules, transitioning from an ultra low Tg polymer melt to a cross-linked elastomeric matrix. By harnessing the power of our functional polyesters, we are able to covalently attach ligands to pendent groups along the polyester backbones within a 3DP structure. Through rigorous analysis of the structure-function and curing dynamics of these materials, I was able to exploit entanglement physics to enhance the printability and ultimate functionality of 3D printed scaffolds.

My work involves studying and implementing the right conditions for production of new materials used for additive manufacturing. I tackle the core question of why a given material may be 3D Printable, and what the material properties required for successful 3D printing are. I design quantitative algorithms using the principles of adhesion and non-newtonian interfacial dynamics to predict printability of materials based on its material properties.In addition to these duties, I am a member of the Additive Manufacturing Working Group, which works on drafting thoughtful technical and policy guidelines to assist and guide players in industry on development and implementation of medical implants, devices, and associated products through the use of additive manufacturing techniques and principles.
I consulted for biotech startups, helping them with technical ideation, and organizing technical workflows and IP strategies.
