Superstructure Design Lead
Event Summary: Competing teams will each design and build a bespoke toboggan capable steering, braking, and most importantly, capable of safely carrying five people down the mountain. The concrete part of a concrete toboggan is the skis, or any other surface in constant contact with the snow. To top it off, the completed toboggan with concrete skis, (typically) metal roll cage, and the steering and braking mechanisms each team creates must weigh in at less than 350 pounds. My role as Superstructure Lead:- Acted as project manager and engineering design consultant for the superstructure and steering & braking teams, which totaled to be 8 senior engineering students- Completed SolidWorks modeling and Finite Element Analysis to support design iterations and to verify Von Mises stress calculations and Safety Factors- Gave a detailed presentation on our superstructure design choices to the event engineering judges- Rode in the toboggan down the hill
