Thesis Title: "Dynamics of anisotropic permeability in coal seam gas reservoirs"The project is part of the Petroleum Engineering branch of the UQ Centre for Coal Seam Gas (CCSG), a multi-million dollar research center founded in 2011 with member organizations: Shell/QGC; Arrow Energy; Santos; APLNG; and UQ. Project budget = $300,000.Project achievements:• Designed, manufactured and commissioned a new Tri-axial Permeameter and data acquisition system for the Centre for Coal Seam Gas.• Successful project delivery to QGC/Shell about the permeability and stress-strain characterization of Surat Basin’s coal samples.• Coal permeability model using a novel, simple, economical, and time effective approach to estimate the gas flow in a coal seam gas reservoir.Core competencies: • Permeability measurement using triaxial stress permeameter (TSR) and standard laboratory core analysis (SLCA). • Porous material characterization, coal characterization and mechanical properties of solids.• Instrumentation assembly for transducers, regulators, strain gauges, ISCO pump. • LabView programming for data logging, controlling and monitoring of instruments.• Sample preparation and storage. • Flow network connections using Swagelok flow system.• Designing, manufacturing, commissioning and operation of high pressure complex laboratory equipment.• Multiphysic and Stocastic modeling and simulation using Comsol and Matlab. • Data analysis and technical report writing.Effective communication, project presentation, staff and laboratory management.• Risk assessment and managing risks of high pressure and flammable gases.

Responsible for conducting experiments related to gasification, proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, calorimetry, and gas chromatography. Engaged in technical writing, procurement of equipment/instruments, managing lab-staff and maintaining material safety data sheets. Delivering equipment training to staff members and students. Supervised practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, and course projects. Developed teaching and course materials such as preparation of course guides, portfolio, assignments, and course coordination. Assessment and grading of assignment and projects.Achievements:1) Accomplished a project for Emirates Aluminum power plant by treating circulating water to inhibit Algae growth in the gas turbine’s cooling system. 2) Delivered a project to Dubai Cables (DUCAB) about the waste XLPE and PVC energy recovery high-temperature pyrolysis.3) Devised a methodology for Abu Dhabi Municipality for waste to energy conversion via solar assisted gasification.4) Successfully assisted academic staff in delivering courses on Advanced Fluid Mechanics, Advanced Energy Conversion, and Computational Fluid Mechanics.

Responsible for conducting Piping stress analysis using CAESAR II software of critical lines and calculating the nozzle displacement of pumps and tanks. Engaged in the sketching of critical lines, managing line list, and draftsman. Involved in the reviewing of P&ID, piping layouts and piping isometrics.Achievements:Successfully conducted the piping stress analysis of Sharourah power plant and Fatima fertilizer.
