The President is responsible for promoting and fostering cooperation among Councils and Assemblies and provide opportunities for their members to socialize with each other. As an excellent communicator, the President also provides a forum for the useful exchange of ideas and information in order to help them become better, stronger, and more active. One goal of the Chapter is to encourage collaboration, programs, and membership opportunities among Councils and Assemblies.

I served as District Deputy 25 for the jurisdiction of Colorado. In this capacity, I was responsible for five Councils from the Five Points area at the north end to Littleton on the south end.The District Deputy (DD) acts as Advisor, Mentor, Teacher as well as a Friend to the Councils to which you are assigned. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:Conduct the installation of Officers; Attend every regular monthly meeting of assigned councils; Involve yourself in your council’s activities. They should think of you as one of their members; Insure that all reports for each council are sent in on time to the appropriate person; Hold at least one 1st degree per month in your district or pair up with another DD to insure that every new candidate has the opportunity to enter our order in a timely manner; Work with each Grand Knight to recruit new members, promote the insurance program and to insure payment of all assessments from State and Supreme including meeting the State Charity Goal; All other duties that are outlined in the DD Handbook.The DD also works to accomplish the following: Attend the State Organizational Meeting normally held the first or second weekend of July; Attend the State Mid-Year Meeting normally held in December or early January; Attend the State Convention; Host a training meeting of your assigned GK’s and other council officers at least 2 times each year to exchange ideas and build fraternity; Host or Co-host at least 1 Major Degree during the year; Attend as many of the Major Degrees in the Archdiocese as possible so you can participate in the advancement of the members of your district; Attend bi-monthly Chapter meetings; Support the Habitat for Humanity cause; Support the Religious Appreciation Dinner; Hold the District Free Throw and Soccer Challenge competition; Attend and work at the Diocesan Free Throw and Soccer competition; Participate and help at any State events.

I served in this capacity for Denver Council 539, the oldest Council west of Missouri. The Council was formed 11/18/1900.The grand knight is responsible for the overall welfare of the council. Elected annually by the council membership, the grand knight must provide thoughtful and inspired leadership to the council officers, the Service Program directors, chairmen and members of the council.More specifically, his duties include: presiding over council meetings; acting as an ex officio member of all committees; appointing the membership and program directors and working with them on the selection of Service Program activities chairmen and membership recruitment teams and retention chairmen; convening officers for a monthly meeting; appointing special committees not mandated by the laws of the council; overseeing the proper exemplification of the First Degree; and, finally, making sure that all reports and reporting forms required by the state or Supreme Council offices are submitted on time.The grand knight also interacts with the financial secretary and treasurer to ensure the council is meeting its financial obligations to the Supreme and state councils, and others. The grand knight countersigns all orders drawn and signed by the financial secretary and all checks drawn and signed by the treasurer. He also reads the vouchers from the financial secretary of moneys paid to the treasurer and from the treasurer of moneys deposited in the bank. By these procedures, the grand knight monitors the performance of the financial secretary and treasurer, working with them to help the council meet its financial obligations.The grand knight is a member of the Advisory Board charged with general supervision of a Columbian Squires circle sponsored by his council.Finally, the grand knight, together with the deputy grand knight and trustees, is responsible for recommending a chaplain to the ordinary of the diocese for his appointment. He also appoints a lecturer.
