My passion is being able to make creativity profitable. Initially, I started out behind the camera. It was a joy to be able to capture the essence of who someone is in a single shot. I became a professional photographer and was able to capture memories through portraits and found that my communications skills showed through in making people feel comfortable in front of the lens. I loved the creative side of the business but was surprised to find that I enjoyed using the left side of my brain even more. Initially tasked with managing profitability for the photography studio, I began taking accounting classes and learned that I loved immersing myself in the numbers. Like a well-composed photograph, the details of each element had an impact. I found that I loved how data could create insights and have an impact on a business and eventually found that my journey led me away from photography and deeper into accounting. I started working in the accounting department for a securities company but eventually realized that I missed being surrounded in a creative environment. I transitioned into an accounting director at LKM, an award-winning advertising agency in Charlotte. It was exciting to be back in the creative world and I found my niche in doing accounting for growing agencies. During my tenure at LKM, my responsibilities and skill set grew to include human resources management, office management and operations. By the time I left, I was the VP/Managing Director of the firm. I came back to the agency world a few years later to join the SPARK Strategic Ideas team in a very similar role. Having worked with the owner of SPARK at LKM years before, it was an easy transition into a multi-faceted role, once again combining my skill-sets in accounting, human resources and operations. Being passionate about the employees, my role and our mission at SPARK fuels my day and my love for this industry.
