Provides guidance to the business to ensure documents, projects, processes or product initiatives comply with regulatory and legal requirements and enterprise policy. Synthesizes analyses, identifies root cause(s) of potential compliance risk, provides recommendations that influence business solutions and validates resolution. Responsible for project management by leading and influencing cross functional enterprise or compliance teams. Assists the AVP of Market Conduct and Audit with the analysis and management of corporate compliance issues, including but not limited to, coordination of market conduct examinations, internal compliance auditing, DOI and consumer complaint trend analysis, forms research, drafting, and filing, policy language interpretation, compliance research for the various departments and other special projects. Responsible for the review, analysis and trending of legal, legislative and insurance industry changes on the state and federal level as well as works closely with the various departments in the areas of underwriting, claims, product management, sales, marketing, agent licensing and technology to ensure our products & services comply with state and federal laws.

Conducted timely and thorough research of proposed legislation, completion of fiscal notes, and developed implementation plans for new Colorado insurance laws. Provided information to Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, legislative liaison or legislators as requested regarding proposed legislation. Provided testimony to the Legislature or legislative committees.Promoted and preserved a sound and competitive workplace through effective State regulation. Provided a prompt, efficient complaint resolution process for Colorado consumers on many types of complex insurance issues, including the review and analysis related to Life and Health premium rate increases and Property and Casualty premium rate, coverage and/or claim complaints. Determined if an individual complaint represented wide-spread non-compliance with Colorado insurance laws and, if so, made recommendations regarding enforcement actions. Provided information on many complicated insurance issues to Colorado consumers, producers, and legislators.Drafted, amended and revised Colorado insurance regulations and bulletins, including research into NAIC model laws and regulations, Attorney General opinions, specific court decisions, Colorado Revised Statutes, existing Division of Insurance regulations and bulletins, and accessing Division data through reports. Assisted in managing the sections’ workload, which includes staff’s caseload, running management reports, and assisting in the management of section coverage issues. Worked with staff to ensure timely handling of consumer complaints and inquiries and training of current and new staff on databases and procedures.
