As a member of the Academy of Natural Science’s newly rebooted Environmental Policy, Planning, and Innovation team, my role is to help the Academy bridge the gap between its scientific research and the public. In this role, one of my focuses is to help create and encourage dialog between the Academy and the public where it had once been one-sided. My goal is to provide a place that allows people to learn about their environment and actively engage in conversations about it. To facilitate this conversation, I take reports from the Academy’s research departments and transform them into stories and research highlights to be published on the Academy’s and their partners’ websites. This involves decreasing the scientific jargon used in the paper and presenting the research in a way that demonstrates how it is impactful for the public’s daily lives.
