Stanton Phillips is a Virginia and DC attorney who limits his practice to adoption law and assisted reproduction law. Over the past 30+ years he has successfully completed over 4,000 adoptions including adoptions from just about every state and more than 70 countries. Stan is rated "AV" by Martindale-Hubbell/ Lexis-Nexis, the highest rating given to attorneys for quality and ethics based upon reviews from other attorneys and from the judiciary.Stan received the Congressional Angel in Adoption Award in 2006. He then served as Chair of the Advisory Council for the Congressional Coalition on Adoption. In Virginia, he actedly participated in the 1995 and 2006 major rewrites of Virginia's adoption statutes. In D.C., he served as the first Chairperson to the D.C. Superior Court Adoption Rules Committee and twice appointed by two Mayors as the attorney member of the Committee for Placement of Children in Family Homes. On the national level, Stan participating in the drafting of the Uniform Adoption Act, was a founding member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys where he served as an officer and trustee.Stan has co-authored or been a contributing author to more than a dozen books on adoption law including Adoption Law and Practice, Family Law and Practice (wrote the adoption chapter), Adoption Law in Virginia and the DC Bar's Adoption Law and Practice Manual. Four of his clients' children have had their Final Decrees of Adoption entered in the White House with the President and First Lady. Stan regularly teaches adoption law to attorneys and social workers.
