Its Hypermedia API allows commerce to be inserted into any digital touch point or channel, as well as proving not all APIs are created equal.I started as the only Solutions Consultant in EMEA. As the team grew I got the promotion to manage the team in 2019 as a Team Lead for EMEA and APAC.As such software is complex, and the environment it must operate in even more so, all our sales cycles include Solution Consultant support. This includes demos, training, technical support, RFP responses, presentations and Business Development support, e.g. running the company booth at conferences.Demo work includes creating new way to highlight the platform's flexibility. I created the proof of principle integrations with Voice Commerce (using Amazon's Alexa), IoT (a cookie jar that charges you for each cookie taken), and Productivity Tools (linking Outlook to generate coupons on the fly for customer service).

SDL Fredhopper is the market leading Cloud solution for search & merchandising on eCommerce. Technical Consulting covers a lot here (Senior as of 2014). On a typical project work starts with supporting Sales, estimating the amount of work required, and setting the scope. Once there is a signed contract, I will gather the detailed requirements with the customer, both on the business, and technical level. Next is a training is for the developers; the one for the Merchandisers that will start using Fredhopper follows later. To the customer I am the main point of contact during the integration, and will communicate internally with Data Engineering, and our Cloud Operations. We are now approaching the finale, the go-live. Only once this is done, can the project be handed over to support. I will stay in contact to repeat the process for any changes, or extra training sessions.To keep this all challenging, I will run about a dozen projects in different stages of completion at any time.Some of my high-profile projects: ASOS, Debenhams, Selfridges, Waitrose, G-Star(NL), and Hema(NL).

TNO is a knowledge organization for companies, government bodies and public organizations. Its employees work to develop and apply knowledge and it is the largest research institute in the Netherlands. I've been lucky to work at the TNO's "Optomechatronics" department. The skills even the average TNO employee has are remarkable. As an open minded Software Engineer I joined the Physicists, Mathematicians, and Control Engineers as a contractor.The researchers here are experts in their fields, but also know how to write a script or two. I joined for a large project and refactoring these scripts – think "spaghetti" – into reusable code. This was essential, before I joined software development was taking more and more of the researchers' time, and it was getting too complex. I then also created programs for new tasks, and automated manual tasks where possible. The "specification" for such programs would often be single sentence, and getting to know the details, as well as the limitations of the physics involved was a major part of the role.
