The IIA is an international professional association of more than 210,000 members in 170 countries and is recognized as the internal audit profession's leader in certification, education, research, and technical guidance worldwide. I represented the profession and advocated in front of Congress and the Administration, including U.S. Treasury and Securities and Exchange Commission, and foreign governments. Also, I set the legal strategy and provided advice on various issues, including drafting, evaluating, and negotiating a wide range of contracts; ethics programs; global expansion and capacity building; standard setting; certification; protecting the organization's intellectual property; and managing the I.P. strategy.I was an associate in the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg and was based in the firm's Chicago office as part of the firm's Healthcare Department. My practice focused on complex regulatory and transactional counseling to clients in the health care and life sciences industries. I provided guidance on privacy, fraud and abuse, health information technology, corporate practice of medicine, state and federal regulation, and various compliance issues.Before joining B.T. Law, I was a law clerk for the City of Grand Rapids and the Honorable Steven M. Pestka of the Kent County Circuit Court. I also worked in Washington D.C. at the Congressional Office of James M.
