I've always been driven by a simple yet powerful career goal: to 'do good' with the skills and aptitudes I have. My journey started with a BSc in Mathematical Sciences to focus on developing my analytical skills. It didn't take long for me to discover that my passion lay in using data to address pressing health issues.This realisation led me to pursue an MSc in Medical Statistics and a PhD in Spatial Epidemiology, where I focused on applying statistical methods to combat climate-sensitive diseases. Since completing my PhD in 2011, I've had the privilege of continuously applying and strengthening my spatial and spatio-temporal analytical skills in this field. However, what truly excites me is the 'full data science pipeline.' I relish working with disease control implementers to identify insight gaps, creating data collection tools, and crafting communication platforms to make complex results more accessible. This journey has led me to transcend the role of a 'statistical analyst' and enter the realm of a 'data scientist.'As my career has evolved, I've moved from postdoctoral positions to research fellowships and lectureships. I've delved deeper into the role of climate and the environment in driving health inequalities, and as extreme weather events become more frequent due to climate change, this topic is more pertinent than ever. I’m keen to continue to contribute my expertise to level the playing field to ensure that the most vulnerable have access to the support that they need. I look forward to connecting with other like-minded professionals who are committed to using data to drive positive change in the world.
