The prospect of solving problems gets me out of bed early in the morning, and is the reason you’ll find me in a coffee shop working into the night twice a week. I am so motivated to serve as a resource for my staff and absorbed in creating solutions that I frequently get kicked out of the coffee shop at closing time. I love all of it though and enjoy working hard. I learned this from my father, a small-town pharmacist, who worked 10 hours a day for six days a week. I was shocked when I found out that most people get two days off and work eight hours a day. Dad was determined to serve and would sacrifice to help others in the hopes of leaving the world a better place than he found it, and I honor his memory by trying to do the same. This manifests in my education career in that I’m always willing to do anything for a student. Even if it means making a fool of myself to take the spotlight off of a painfully self-conscious student to help them move forward, I’ll gladly do it. My background in theater and ability to think on my feet has helped with this. As a teacher, I also excelled in being able to develop engaging lessons and build a classroom culture of respect and success. When I was promoted to principal, I carried the ability to build a positive culture of working hard and being respectful and brought it to the building. I also was able to steer the ship to reach bigger goals by having a laser focus, finding and expounding on the strengths of my staff and helping them grow with one-on-one professional development. I’ve been successful enough at this that my strategies have been implemented throughout The Met schools. I was proud to be recognized as Principal of the Year out of 130+ Big Picture Schools. Currently as the Executive Director at New Legacy Charter School in Aurora, CO, I am please to support two generations of learners. New Legacy is a school for pregnant and parenting teens... we have an amazing staff supporting amazing teens and their children! It's great to work at a school where we meet students where they are at!When I’m not at the school, I enjoy working with my hands to build things and see the result of my creativity.
