Working with Atlassian’s co-CEOs, Steen led the team building out Atlassian’s Cloud Platform. After establishing the Cloud Platform, Steen was invited to lead the Jira platform team which underpins the Jira family of products. Industry Leadership: Steen founded and led the Atlassian Associate Product Management (APM) Program which attracts 15,000 of the best new graduate talent annually to apply for roles at Atlassian.

Key Achievements: Product & Business Strategy: Steen led the pivot of Google Drive’s strategy from consumer to enterprise. Steen guided product roadmap changes to ensure the product offering was competitive in-market against Microsoft, Box and Dropbox. Executive Leadership: Convinced Google executives & CEO to double the investment in Google Drive to gain market share in the growing Enterprise File Sync & Sharing (EFSS) market. Merger & Acquisitions: Completed strategic M&A to close gaps in the product offering. Market Leadership: Moved Google Drive into the leader quadrant in the Gartner Magic Quadrant and materially improved the enterprise sales win rate.

Steen was one of the earliest mentors and investors in Australia’s leading startup accelerator, Startmate. Successful alumni include BugCrowd, GoodCall, TutorOnDemand, Shiftr, Kinderloop, HappyInspector, NinjaBlocks, FlightFox(YC2012), GetVero, ScriptRock & Grabble (Acquired by Walmart). Steen has helped new Startmate companies adapt for launch in the US, with investor & client introductions, strategic support and advice.

Steen created the Sensedoc product to help sales teams access the latest and greatest presentation materials so they can deliver the most compelling sales pitches. This evolved into an enterprise content recommendation platform which was acquired by Nitro in July 2014.

Led Product and GTM, spearheading the acquisition of pillar global clients, such as Coca-Cola & Safeway. Key Achievements: Fundraising: Led and closed a $8M ‘Series A’ fundraising roundSales & Marketing: Built the sales and marketing organisation which secured clients such as Coca-Cola, Safeway, Victoria's Secret, Peets Coffee & Tea, Jos.A.Bank, Walgreens, HP, and more. Co-founded 5th Finger Australia in December 1999 to create a world leading mobile marketing platform and business. Key Achievements: Revenue: Growing the company from startup to $20M in annual revenue within 5 years;Industry Association Leadership: Founded the Australian Mobile Marketing Association and Mobile Marketing Awards program;Shareholder Returns: Delivered a 1000% return to shareholders in the acquisition by Microsoft.

Combining my experience in networking and love of multiplayer interactive gaming, I founded Multiplay Online P/L in April 1996, the month that Quake Beta was launched! Multiplay quickly became Australia's largest online hit-title multiplayer games network allowing high speed gaming for anyone with a modem or Internet connection. With the help of Paul Davis, one of the few VCs in Australia at the time, and the CEO we appointed, David Urquhart, we put together a gun team and were able to launch the business in short order. Hoping to gain a regional leadership position (due to Australia's relative network isolation), we focused on delivering a high performance and low latency gaming network. This served us well and allowed us to build a sizable subscriber base in the following 18mths, before selling the business to a PE group in 1999.

While at RealNet Access, we launched a joint venture with Newsnet Ltd to allow faxes to be sent over the Internet to save time and money. This was an exciting startup in its own right, with trips to the US & London to pitch to investors and seek distribution deals. We were able to negotiate some great lead generation deals with Netscape, Yahoo and Infoseek at the time. Eventually the operations became most beneficial to Newsnet so it made sense for them to bring the business in-house.
