For 26 years, I managed a small business that did web hosting and Internet software development. I have lots of experience in web applications development, social media integration, embedded applications, and robotics software. I program in C/C++, PERL, PHP, and other languages. Since 2018, I'm back working for a larger company, EF Johnson Technologies, a division of JVC/Kenwood.I've worked extensively with free and open source software (FOSS/FLOSS) such as GNU gcc, GNU/Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL, MySQL. I've contributed patches to many community projects including Apache, MediaWiki, Wordpress, Linux, libxml2, ChucK, and NXC.I have experience working with a variety of web content management systems (CMS) including Joomla, Drupal, PostNuke, Moodle, MediaWiki, and Wordpress. Most of my recent CMS work is on Wordpress.I write for online and print publications on robots, artificial intelligence, and other topics. My articles have appeared in Servo Magazine, Robot Magazine, the robots.net blog, Robot Practioner Journal, Robot Explorer Newsletter, and others. I've been interviewed or quoted on the subject of robotics by numerous radio programs, podcasts, and publications such as the New York Times and USA Today. I've also acted as a technology consultant on robotics for the Nova series, the Discovery Network, even on a CSI: New York script. I've participated as judge in several robotics competitions such as the VEX World Championship. I'm a long time member of the Dallas Personal Robotics Group and co-founder of Dallas Makerspace.I'm a photographer - my photography has been published in several print magazines and books, has been displayed in local gallery exhibits in the Dallas area, and has been used as supplementary material for an architectural exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum in Germany. I collect and shoot with vintage cameras and lenses. I'm one of the founders of Camera-Wiki.org where I maintain the Vivitar (aka Ponder & Best) articles.
