My field placement was within the Oregon Health Authority, where I supported the Maternal and Child Health Program and the Program Design and Evaluation office. During my field placement, my work fell within two areas: primary prevention of violence and program evaluation. For violence prevention, my responsibilities were to develop and coordinate the evaluation of the implementation of the Human Sexuality Education law in Oregon high schools. I also provided technical assistance and training to CDC Rape Prevention and Education grantees on programming content and evaluation. For evaluation, I helped with numerous program evaluations, including data collection and analysis for the preconception health social marketing/behavior change campaign for Latinas (Amor y Salud) and the Healthy Food Access Project for incarcerated women at an Oregon correctional facility. Additionally, I helped to plan, collect, and analyze data for an environmental scan / formative evaluation of tobacco retail licensing policy option.My two CDC assignments were within the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, Immigrant, Refugee and Migrant Health Branch and the National Center for Environmental Health, Lead Poisoning Prevention and Healthy Homes Branch. I also led health clubs in three area high schools and coordinated programming and logistics for International Women's Day celebrations, and World AIDS Day. I wrote a successful grant application to implement HIV/AIDS educational trainings to over 2000 community leaders, traditional healers, midwives, and villagers in 30 villages in Lushoto District, Tanzania.
