Chief Of Staff - Aws Training Products
CurrentI support the General Manager for the WW AWS Training Products organization. This includes hiring and developing leaders, building teams, designing organizational structure, calibrating performance, managing operations, and P&L management. I also manage several teams for the business including: Voice of Customer for AWS Segments, Data Science Products and Services, and Business Management/Operations.
General Manager - Amazon Japan, Digital Apps And Games
I went to Japan as the General Manager for our Digital Apps and Games Services business. This was a stand-alone, multi-hundred million dollar business with it's own P&L. I led a turnaround of the business, returning it to profitability within 18 months. I was able to accomplish this through changing the strategic focus of the business, applying stricter financial controllership, restructuring of the org, hiring new leaders, and most importantly... imbuing an Amazonian culture of independent, accountable flexibility. I also led the organization through the beginning of COVID, establishing and implementing all necessary local protocols as the pandemic began. At the end of my tenure, organizational job satisfaction had improved by every measure across the board.
Head Of Developer Experience, Business Operations, And Consumer Analytics - Fire Devices
I led an international, multi-discipline organization comprised of several teams with ~100 people in total across Seattle, Irvine, and Bangalore. The scope of each team ranged widely with the common thread that they all operated across the entire portfolio of Amazon Devices and Alexa. Our Developer Experience teams were responsible for the services Amazon provides to third-party content creators and developers for our Fire devices. We also chartered a new Business Operations function to provide ongoing support for the contract-to-payment lifecycle to ensure proper handling of all third-party accounting processes. We built a new Data Services team to manage all developer and customer data for our Appstore business including AWS migration and GDPR. We also built a new Data Science team with a full-stack staffing concept which operated across the Fire device channels with practice areas including customer segmentation, business metrics definition, event attribution, and the invention of new predictive analytics.
Head Of Product - Appstore For Android
I led the business and product teams for the Amazon Appstore's WW Android products and the Amazon Underground program. Our products offer customers the best experience for finding and using mobile content on their Android devices. Some of the areas my team was responsible for include:- Evolve the Appstore consumer products which provides exclusive access to Amazon Underground, Amazon Coins, and the Amazon Instant Video App- Operate the Amazon Underground program, an innovative new model for app developers to monetize their content and for customers to enjoy that content completely free- Develop new technology and stealth products which drive the mobile app ecosystem- Manage the PnL for the WW Android Appstore business and Amazon Underground
Head Of Digital Marketing
I joined a stealth start-up in the entertainment industry to drive product marketing for their initial launch. This included defining the strategy, developing the tactics, and managing the execution from prelaunch development through the final in-market launch. We deployed a burst strategy in highly targeted geos. We executed multi-channel tactics with feet-on-the street presence, radio partnerships, direct digital media buys, and self-service ad networks. Campaigns included brand awareness, social, video, and performance driven metrics supported with attribution tracking software implementation. The result was a successful acquisition of 30% of total addressable market and 40% competitive share-of-wallet shift in our target launch markets.
Group Manager - Product Management And Ux Design - Appstore
I led the product management and design team responsible for $MM's in revenue from Appstore's largest customer channel. Our team was responsible for delivering the Appstore experience on all of Amazon's branded devices. We enabled the Apps and Games you enjoy on all Amazon Fire devices and we worked on next generation R&D projects which fueled growth. Some of the Appstore projects I've led include:- Launch of the Fire TV in the US, UK, and DE, Amazon's first streaming media box designed for the 10' experience - Launch of the Fire TV Stick in the US, Amazon's entry to the portable streaming media device market- Launch of the Fire Phone in the US, UK, and DE, Amazon's first smartphone with a 1st generation developer SDK- Launch of the 7th Generation Fire Tablets worldwide and the latest Fire OS platform- Updates and releases across all three device families
Director, Strategy And New Channel Development
My career at Experian covered a very broad range of high visibility strategic projects. Experian selected me out of b-school for their Leadership Development Program. I was assigned to different areas of the business ranging from Automotive to Global Strategic Planning. A few highlights from my time here:- Led the end-to-end creation of and business development for Experian’s first social commerce solution allowing consumers and micro-businesses to exchange credit information- Co-founded Experian’s first Applied R&D Lab to execute on high impact innovation via big data acquisition and analytics (later branded as Experian DataLabs)- Supported project management and commercial due diligence for a multi-million dollar acquisition target- Led strategic planning efforts for Global, North America Credit Services, and North America Data Strategy- Authored the business case, funded, and delivered a rapid prototype commercial risk product- Created a detailed competitive P&L model and conducted primary research for the vehicle history report market- Researched and established partnership opportunities with alternative data players in the mobile commerce and sentiment analysis industries
Sr. Product Manager
I was the lead product manager for data collection, web analytics, and reporting features in the Yahoo search marketing platform. We rolled out the analytics solution to advertisers across North America and the UK marketplaces. The reporting tools and APIs were used by any advertisers who wanted to track their campaign performance on Yahoo or to integrate Yahoo data with other reporting platforms. Ultimately I would end up leveraging these areas of ownership as the product manager in charge of reporting for Yahoo’s development of a new integrated search and display advertising platform. I also simultaneously worked on integration with other platforms such as Shopping and Small Business.
Sr. Product Manager
I joined SeeBeyond (later acquired by Sun) in the early days of SOA. As an integration platform vendor, SeeBeyond was looking for opportunities to demonstrate the utility of SOA and drive their solution further up the enterprise stack into the application space. I was brought in to build a team of 4 Product Managers as part of a new application prototyping unit based on my expertise in both systems integration and cloud software. Over the next year, we took an “eat-your-own-dog-food” approach to delivering 7 new business composite applications.
Product Manager/Sr. Manager, Professional Services
Before there was RiverOne there was Need2Buy, an early stage start-up that built a B2B marketplace for electronic components which operated on top of a spot sourcing business. I joined after being recruited by senior leaders from Accenture who recruited me as their go-to guy for business and technology integration. In this capacity I reviewed and analyzed every major integration platform vendor and middleware provider of the time. The company pivoted into enterprise software and re-branded as RiverOne, a supply chain management solution provider. We were one of the early players in hosted enterprise services with both shared and privately hosted ASP models... delivery models which would later be proven out by the cloud and companies like Salesforce. In addition to my role in product management, I ran a team of 6 systems engineers and analysts, leading the technical implementation and integration for our customers. I developed the implementation methodology used for engagements, reversed the negative monthly project budget for our marquis client, and ultimately led the integration of ~50 trading partners across 3 continents.
Analyst
I started working at Accenture when it was still Andersen Consulting. Having previously interned in both manufacturing (Sony and Kyocera) and software engineering (Essco/Invensys) allowed me to deliver consultant level value as an analyst. In addition to proposal and research work, my projects included development of an HR onboarding application, data warehouse development for E*Trade, and a supply chain strategy engagement with Ingram Micro.
