About Stefan Maus
Stefan Maus is a Senior Scientist at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He received a B.Sc. in Mathematics in 1988 and a M.Sc. in Geophysics in 1993, both from the University of Munich (Germany), followed by a PhD in 1997 at National Geophysical Research Institute in Hyderabad (India). After a post-doc in Leeds, he taught Geophysics at the University of Braunschweig and Free University Berlin. From 2000-2004 he was part of the CHAMP satellite team at GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam.His primary research interest is in Geomagnetism, with emphasis on producing magnetic field models from satellite, airborne and marine magnetic measurements. Stefan is the project leader of ISO Standard 16695 for Geomagnetic Reference Models. From 2004 to 2014, he was the Geomagnetism Team Leader at NOAA’s National Geophysical Data Center, overseeing the production of the World Magnetic Model (WMM2005 and WMM2010), the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF2010), and introduced the Enhanced Magnetic Model (EMM2010) and the High Definition Geomagnetic Model (HDGM2011 to HDGM2013).From 2010 to 2021, Stefan produced high-resolution geomagnetic models, automated geosteering and sensor quality control algorithms for directional drilling at MagVAR, Surcon and Helmerich & Payne Technologies.
