I'm Associate Professor of Urban Design at the Department of Urbanism, Program Director of MSc MADE at AMS Institute and co-director of VR-BK at BK-LABS. My main objective is to improve the Urban Design process by applying new technologies, modelling and simulation, e.g. by using VR and AR as key design tools. In my methods I use evidence-based design and digital tools: integration of traditional mapping, dynamic user data and sensing technologies. Users play a central role in my approach: the City from Eye-level perspective. My research is covering HEALTH by focussing on Active modes (Walking/biking) in relation to the Built Environment.The main fields I am covering are [1] Urban Transformations: dynamics of the city, urban form versus densification (Public Space, Vital City Centers, Liveable City, Pedestrian Oriented Design) [2] Intermodal Transfer Points - the design of terminals and public transport NODES;[3] Technology & Geo-informatics: Activity Patterns: GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth tracking; Data modelling: VR + AR tools for design. [4] HEALTH : Active modes and the Built EnvironmentAt TU Delft I coordinate(d) and lecture(d) in various course, e.g.R&D studio "People, Movement & Public Space”; “Urban Fabrics"Urbanism & Geomatics: "Sensing the City / Delft from Above”; “Computational Design"I carried out research in Spatial Metro (Interreg IIIb) which aimed at improving City Centres for Pedestrians. Central issue was to develop a method to monitor and evaluate pedestrian behaviour and experiences in the historic city centers. I participated in Connected Cities (Interreg IIIc), DIEMIGO, Pedestrian Quality Needs (COST 358), MOVE (COST IC0903), MODAP (FP7/EU FET-OPEN) and NODES.
