  I supervised Kaia (Kristina) Fowler in several increasingly responsible jobs in our library. She started as a page (book shelver) at 16, a summer reading club worker, a creative ideas assistant for Youth Services, a co-producer and performer for our Road Show to tell about the Summer Reading Club to all 27 schools in our Library District, and finally as a Library Associate, doing Youth Reference, Storytime, Collection Development, and Guitar Specialist.Kaia has always been able to see a problem, think out of the box, and reach answers with whatever is at hand. To a department head with very little programming money, this was a real plus to having her as an employee. She could manage lively children, irate moms, and obnoxious teenagers with aplomb. She was always respectful and polite, able to defuse a potentially volatile situation no matter when or where the problem arose. Kaia has always been an exceptionally mature individual, yet has a wonderful sense of humor in looking at life. I've kept in contact with Kaia over the years, paying her for voice lessons for a granddaughter at one point. Kaia has wonderful people skills, and can get along with almost everyone in the world. She is extremely intelligent and can complete any task unsupervised. She asks questions to make sure she understands the project, then goes ahead with minimal disturbance to complete her job. Kaia has kept up with new technologies and is proficient. She has an innate sense of pride in her work.
