I want my clients to get the most recent knowledge. I want to share the benefits of modern software engineering, using techniques such as DevOps, Test automation, Security by Compliance, and Compliance by Design, using Kubernetes, Kafka, Docker, Git, and a host of open-source CI/CD tools. I am automating the design, build, test, and deploy cycle. I have designed information systems with design tools such as Archimate, UML, Ampersand, System-Architect. I have built information systems with Haskell, JavaScript, PHP, SQL, Prolog.

I have been enthousiastically driven by the quest for new knowledge all my life. That's why I am very happy to fulfill a professorship in the design of information systems since 1999 (tenure from 2005). As a full professor (gewoon hoogleraar) I spend 0.2FTE of my professional time on research and education. First in the computer science department and later in the combined department Management, Science and Technology. In 2018 I served as PC Chair of the International Conference of Relation Algebraic Methods in Computer Science (RAMiCS). Achievements are the introduction of a formal method in the CS and BPM&IT curricula, the application of scientific research in practice, and projects such as TISO, Ampersand, and “Beginselen Digitaal”. Among my responsibilities are: leading a team with respect to research and education, to warrant scientific standards in the curricula and to coordinate research and education as chairman of a council called O&O. My research objective is to get correct information from correct information systems to work in practice. My main achievement is to design and build Ampersand, an open source tool and an agile method to automate software development for compliant information systems. This project serves the purpose of turning large, risky IT programmes into small, predictable projects.

As a product owner of the Ampersand compiler (https://github.com/AmpersandTarski/Ampersand/) I have implemented a generator that builds complete information systems, including database and user interfaces. The generator produces a web-application in MySQL/MariaDB and JavaScript. The compiler itself is written in Haskell and uses packages such as PanDoc, GraphViz, Parsec. Its production is automated with Stack and Docker.As a product owner of the model repository RAP3 (http://ampersand.tarski.nl/RAP3/#/) I have implemented an educational platform in which users can submit specifications of information systems and get a working information system instantly. RAP3 is currently being used to train students in conceptual thinking in the course Rule Based Design (https://www.ou.nl/-/IM0403_Rule-Based-Design). The Rijksacademie has conducted a curriculum called "Project Management in IT", which offered a one-year training for higher management in public service. This curriculum was accredited by the Open University.

I teach architecture classes in the the Master of IT Management, (http://www.delft-toptech.nl) at Delft TopTech.

Anaxagoras was founded to introduce process architecture in the Dutch market. This company was instrumental in defining the PAM-methodology for process architecture, which is still being used today. It was taken over by Ordina in the year 2000, because it harboured the best process architects available at that time in the Dutch market.

I joined the university in order to explore the practical applicability of new developments. I started in the field of functional programming, became a specialist in neural networks, but found my passion in information systems. Design methodology for workflow systems has opened opportunities for close collaboration with many different industries. Upon an invitation to spend a year as visiting associate professor, I worked with en enthousiastic group of people on the topics of workflow management, business processes, object oriented design, and teaching methods.
