I’m an experienced software architect with 25+ years designing, building and supporting large-scale systems. After working at one of the first internet only banks in the UK, I’ve spent 16 years with an ISV that produces the leading practice management software for the legal domain. I was part of the original team that transitioned the client server product to a service orientated architecture built using agile practices. This has included driving the adoption of domain driven design, test automation, infrastructure automation, declarative approaches, low-code customisations, workflow and more. Most recently I've been the architecture lead at a leading global SaaS provider for Inventory Management, working on modernizing the platform and approaches.As a senior architect, I’ve been involved in all aspects: supporting C-level technical strategy, technical direction and governance, platform architecture, product architecture, performance, system reliability, production support and troubleshooting. I’ve worked with the Microsoft stack my whole career starting with FoxPro and Visual Basic in the 90s. I’ve worked with .NET from 1.0 using C# alongside Windows Server and SQL Server. I contributed to the early access Microsoft TAPs for .NET 4 and Windows Server AppFabric, and spoken at various Microsoft TechEd events in both North America and New Zealand discussing service architecture, Windows Workflow, Windows Communication Foundation and Windows Server AppFabric.Lately I’ve been leading the next wave of modernisation, adapting the on-premises product towards a cloud future. This has involved web APIs with OAS, modern identity and authorisation with OAuth and OIDC, containerization, cloud hosting in both Azure and AWS. Alongside modernising the legacy applications, I’ve been working with teams on new cloud native solutions that take advantage of cloud hosted services such as functions and cognitive services.One of my key strengths is my ability to communicate and share knowledge, which can range from on-boarding graduates through the graduate training programme to presenting the latest features and approaches at the annual user conferences. My role often focuses on enabling others, through discussion, prototyping, reviews, facilitation and alignment.
