z/OS Storage Management, in a large IT shop, was my most recent assignment, performing proactive monitoring and tuning, problem analysis and resolution, working on team projects, and responding to user requests.For z/OS platform consolidations, I projected sizing of the target site DASD storage groups, providing the required capacity. I analyzed and updated the batch jobs and schedules prior to SMS environment merges. For DASD refresh projects, I moved data to new target frames via FDRPAS, DFDSS, and ISMF utilities. I participated in disaster recovery exercises, most recently recovering a mainframe environment to the disaster site, including HSC and SRDF. The day-to-day responsibilities included DASD pool tuning, tape recycles, and batch job troubleshooting, and adding and reclaiming storage as dictated by application requirements.Previously, I provisioned mainframe equipment. This involved gathering requirements, building forecasts, developing business cases and equipment specifications, evaluating vendor solutions, gaining approvals, coordinating ordering, delivery and installation, and equipment redeployments, and tracking assets and the budget. I built a repository of the installed mainframe equipment, including component upgrades, costs, and warranty period data. This allowed me to do a full review of the hardware maintenance costs, finding and challenging invoice errors, and saving the corporation significant dollars in recurring costs.Prior IT experience was in the MVS Performance & Tuning specialty, of mainframe analysis and proactive tuning, to provide optimal workload throughput on the available processing capacity. The day-to-day included RMF monitoring for DASD tuning, and working with clients to help them introduce efficiencies into their workloads. I initiated and project lead SRM standardization across multiple mainframe systems, then performed a new phase to bring in additional systems following the company merger.
