Depending on what the dimer concentrations are and also depending on which cell line we look at, different programs can be initiated and we are interested in the ones that become malignant. For example, using 2% cigarette smoke extract on alveolar epithelial tissue shows an increase in cRel/RelA hetero-dimer inside the nucleus. Since cRel/RelA is a protein that is typically expressed during growth and replication the life-time for it is about 4 hours. If the concentrations remain high and a point mutation to express bcl-2 (apoptotic gene inhibitor) occurs then a malignant cell line is formed.We are currently looking at the dimer ratios of malignant cells to normal cells. Knowing the ratio for the proteins allows us to understand which dimers are potential dangers for different cell lines and may be an early indicator for detection of malignant cell lines. Show less

This dropping of the class by the student prohibited the professors from being able to assign a grade if the student was found violating UCSD academic integrity policies.Additionally I helped handle the redistribution in millions of dollars after passing away of two of our distinguished professors. I was responsible for learning how to mutate DNA by use of different PCR primers, transform different cell lines, express proteins, and write protocols for the Komives lab.

Instructed students regarding the physical sciences. Also helped build the STEM facility inside Palomar's Science Facility. The classes which I helped students were general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and mathematics.
